Bobby Armstrong – Men’s volunteer
Hi, my name is Bobby Armstrong, and I teach the men’s Bible Study here at Steelbridge. I began serving in 2009, back when it was known as the Albuquerque Rescue Mission. From the very beginning, what stood out to me was how many people were hurting and in need of hope.
At the start of 2009, I asked God for direction, and He led me to Steelbridge through Isaiah 58, where God speaks about sharing your food with the hungry. As I spent time here and got to know the people, I continued to feel God’s gentle nudging, confirming that this was where He wanted me to serve.
I keep coming back because I truly feel God calling me to be here. Serving at Steelbridge has deeply impacted me and taught me compassion for those walking through the struggles and pain of addiction and homelessness.
There have been many moments over the years that have stayed with me, but one I will never forget is how the men here accepted me. They have always made me feel welcome, and I do not take that for granted.
Serving has strengthened my faith by allowing me to witness God transform lives. The residents continually remind me that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. God has truly worked through this ministry, helping people be honest with themselves and showing them that He is the God of second chances and however many chances it takes to get us where we need to be.
Steelbridge has given me great hope for our community because I see lives being transformed, and I know God’s hand is on this place. If you are considering volunteering, my advice would be to pray about it. I was once just a beggar who found some bread, and now I get to tell others where they can find the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ.
