Letty’s Testimony

Before Steelbridge, I lived in Alamogordo. Some of my friends didn’t even know I was struggling with addiction. I could still hold a job, but inside, I was declining.

Addiction took my family, relationships, job, finances, and health. I became an ugly person, inside and out. I was selfish and careless. I was mad at life. I lost a lot of weight and was beginning to look unhealthy.

One of the hardest things to face is how my addiction affected my daughters and grandkids. I was drinking and driving with some of my grandkids in the car. Thank God my daughters found out right away, and that stopped. I also started missing family events and gatherings. It hurt them enough that they decided to distance themselves from me, and that hurt.

But God gave me a moment of clarity.

I started processing all the damage I had caused and realized I needed to put myself into a recovery program. It felt like my only solution because I wasn’t listening to anyone anymore. Not my loved ones, my ex boyfriend, my pastor, or even the judge. That was scary.

By then, I had lost my car, important belongings, my freedom, and my relationship. People may see where I am today, but they don’t always see the struggle it took to get here.

Recovery, for me, means doing my best every day and choosing what is right. It means understanding that my choices matter. It means being there for my daughters and grandkids as much as possible, whether that is through a phone call, a text message, or simply being present.

There was a time when I believed leaving addiction wasn’t possible. I believed I wasn’t enough.

But God did not give up on me.

He put it in my heart that I needed to start walking toward recovery, and He used my daughters to help me take those steps. God reminded me that I am enough.

Today, I value what addiction was taking from me: God, my health, my daughters, my grandkids, my sister, my brothers, my friends, and my self control.

If I could speak to another woman who feels trapped where I once was, I would tell her this:

With God, all things are possible. You are of high value because Jesus paid the highest price for you.
