Dear Precious Partners,
In January of 2017, the Albuquerque Rescue Mission became Steelbridge Ministries. This decision was made intentionally, strategically, and prayerfully. I want to take a moment to remind you of WHY we made this important decision and how it symbolizes our renewed focus on transforming lives through the power of God’s love.
We changed our name because we were perceived as a “soup kitchen!” We are not a “soup kitchen” and haven’t been for several years. Changing our name to Steelbridge allows us to answer the question “Who is Steelbridge?” Steelbridge is a ministry focused on long-term recovery programs that also provides emergency care services to people in crisis.
In 1954, like other rescue missions in many cities during that era, we were a “soup kitchen” that provided ministry and emergency services: a meal, warm clothing, and overnight shelter to homeless and unemployed men.
In the past year, we have TRIPLED the capacity of our long-term residential recovery programs. Today, we provide about 100 men and women with long-term housing, food, clothing, education, recovery, employment services, and Biblical counsel. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 2 years.
In 2017, the world is vastly different than it was in 1954. Addiction is at the center of panhandling and homelessness on our streets. Eight of the ten leading causes of death in New Mexico are from an addiction to alcohol or drugs. We rank 2nd in drug overdose fatalities.
A meal, medication, and shelter alone do not set people FREE from the chains of addiction. The love of Christ is what CHANGES men & women! Transforming lives through the power of God’s love is our purpose. We want to solve the problem, not just treat the symptoms! That is the reason for our change. As always, all of our services are provided FREE of charge to our guests while receiving $0 in government funds. We are 100% funded by partners like you.
You’ve been our faithful partners as the Albuquerque Rescue Mission, providing emergency services to the needy in our city and we’re so grateful! Today, I ask that you continue to partner with Steelbridge as we seek to serve the homeless and vulnerable with the life-changing love of Christ in new ways. We need YOUR financial support NOW, more than ever!
Yours Because of Jesus,
Pastor John Hill
