DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Operates with minimal direction from the President/CEO and is given appreciable latitude for independent action and decisions corresponding with the demonstrated ability for following policy guidelines, department objectives, and applicable laws, rules, and ordinances.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Planning - Creates and sets the strategic plan for all development activities and initiatives including, but not limited to, fundraising, campaigns, events, planned giving, volunteerism, and other resource development programs. Collaborates extensively with the Board of Directors, its committees, and the President/CEO to implement our strategic plan.
Fundraising – Donors & Foundations Implements and achieves development and fundraising goals successfully. This includes, but is not limited, to direct mail, grant writing, annual giving, volunteer cultivation, donor/prospect cultivation, and stewardship. Works with the President/CEO to develop and cultivate relationships with all public and private donors, including local businesses and churches. Creates a working pipeline of donor/prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward in accordance with the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Ethics. Identifies new prospects for making annual gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts. Arranges and conducts direct donation-asks. Plans and executes all direct mail marketing with concurrence from the President/CEO. Experience in running and managing capital campaigns. Supervises and supports annual fundraising events. Works with Event Coordinator, Development Staff, and Volunteer Coordinator to obtain sponsorships, volunteer teams, and ticket sales necessary to reach budgeted goals.
Board of Directors Relations - Collaborates with the President/CEO and Board of Directors to identify fundraising training needs for Board Members and other leadership volunteers. Reports development activities and attends board meetings monthly. Utilizes Board Members where necessary and willing to participate in cultivation and solicitation activities.
Development Office Infrastructure - Supervises staff consisting of Communications/Marketing, Special Projects Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement, and Donor Services. Supervises maintenance of donor and gift record keeping and acknowledgments. Works collaboratively with Communications Department overseeing all communications to donor/prospects.
Seeks out public speaking opportunities to promote Steelbridge Ministries services through donor and volunteer opportunities. Works with Communications Department and Steelbridge clients to develop their stories and powerful ways to share them.
Ministers the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in word and deed as directed or as the need shall dictate in fulfilling the great commission. Other responsibilities assigned and not limited to those above.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: President / CEO
DAYS/HOURS: This position is full-time, at 40 hours per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. NOTE: This position is exempt from overtime pay.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS: A proven, sincere commitment to the Gospel and Rescue Ministry.
Minimum Qualifications - Three to five years professional fundraising experience. Adherence to highest ethical practices in fundraising and money management. Demonstrated experience in implementing a successful large-scale campaign and direct asks resulting in major gifts and multi-year pledges. Extensive direct mail experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team. Ability to work with donors and volunteers of all personality types.
Bachelor’s Degree. Independent self-starter with positive problem-solver attitude. Computer literate (Word, Publisher, Excel), able to learn and use Bloomerang Donor Management Software.
Preferred Qualifications 5+ years professional fundraising experience.
Demonstrated success with large-scale capital campaigns. Demonstrated success building a multi-year pledge system with donors. Highly productive team player who will build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between the staff, Board, donors, volunteers, and external audiences.
Knowledge of community resources and contacts. Strategic thinker. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with excellent time-management skills. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Ability to handle multiple priorities, keep organized, and careful attention to detail.

Minimum Faith Qualifications Have experienced spiritual conversion in Jesus Christ and confess Him as Savior and Lord. Evidence that the person and character of Jesus Christ is demonstrated in daily life by applying themselves toward growth in spiritual maturity. Be a consistent/committed participant in or actively searching for a local Christian church that espouses spiritual conversion, as testified by a Pastor or Christian leader.
Sincerely cares for homeless people. Sincerely supports the purpose of Steelbridge Ministries. Abstain, or be willing to spiritually mature toward abstinence, from unregenerate habits and activities which impacts or impairs performance or witness as an employee. Have the desire and ability to work in harmony with other staff members from varying denominational backgrounds. The extent to which a person satisfies these requirements will be determined in the sole discretion of Steelbridge Ministries applying biblical standards.
